The Magazine- Bag

Following the irony of fun-loving sixties‘ fashion the theme of trompe l’oeil came up in lots of variations:

The masterfull dresses of Roberta di Camerino or the fake buckles in jewelry.

The Magazine- or „Newspaper-Bags“ added bags to this playful design-trend. They came in the shape of a rolled magazine, showing real covers of real, most high-gloss- magazines.

The most famous brand was RICMA.

The Trend lasted until the early eighties and even the bags werde made from plastic and paper, they were quite pricey and only sold in exclusive fashionable boutiques.

In the years of 2000 the idea got a Revival and was copied from several brands.

  • Often the varnish is yellowish.
  • Most bags do not have chains!
  • They often have a leather band with button for closure.
  • They NEVER got a label „Made in China“ inside. Yet there are a few „Made-In-Hong-Kongs“
